Batomon Showdown Level 4, Merging and Shiny Explained
Merging is three level 1 copies into level 2 and two level 2 copies into level 3, and it stops there. Level 4 needs events or upgrade items. Plus the Shiny rules.

Standard merging in Batomon Showdown is fixed. Three same-species level 1 copies make one level 2, and two same-species level 2 copies make one level 3. That is where it stops. Level 4 is out of reach unless you run into a special level-up effect.
Shiny is not a flat multiplier either. A Shiny variant uses its own stat and ability values, so the Shiny form of a given Batomon can end up faster or slower than the normal one.
The merge recipe, plus three rules people miss
- 3 same-species level 1 copies become one level 2
- 2 same-species level 2 copies become one level 3
- Every merge also gives you a trinket choice
- Once you own a level 3 of a species, that species and its pre-evolutions stop appearing in the shop
- Level 4 is the universal maximum, but it is never a product of standard merging
Where level 4 comes from
Only special effects produce a level 4. Three kinds are verifiable.
Events are the first. Some three-choice events include an option that levels a Batomon up to a maximum of level 4, and the professor-style encounter is one of them.
Upgrade items are the second. Candy-type items raise a level directly, and the official patch notes keep touching upgrades, which suggests the route gets used often.
Trainers and events that hand over a high-level unit are the third. Egg Breeder’s purple egg gives you a level 2 Super Rare outright.
To be clear: the developer has never published a complete list of level 4 sources. The three kinds above are what can be verified from patch notes and player testing, not the whole picture. To confirm a specific route, read the live values from the in-game inspect panel.
One 1.0.0 change is worth noting: a level 4 Batomon now resells at its level 3 price. That closes off the old trick of pushing to level 4 and selling for profit.
How Shiny differs from the normal form
Shiny is not a percentage bonus.
- A Shiny variant can have different stats, ability text or ability values from the normal form, and it varies by species.
- So the internet claim that “Shiny is a 1.5x boost” does not hold.
- If any ingredient in a merge is Shiny, the merged result is Shiny.
- A Shiny item such as Shiny Berry turns a random non-Shiny Batomon Shiny and gives you one extra item use.
What survives a merge or a transform
| Change | Result |
|---|---|
| Added types | Kept. Extra types from Chef, Painter or events are not lost |
| Shiny | If any ingredient is Shiny, the result is Shiny |
| Using a transformation stone | The new unit keeps the pre-transform base sell value |
| Level | Not inherited from the original unit; it starts from the unit’s own baseline |
Three practical merging rules
Confirm whether the target species evolves before you commit. Some units become a different species at level 3, which changes your merge plan, and once they evolve the shop stops stocking the pre-evolution.
Do not lock too many slots before you have three level 1 copies. Locking costs you candidate slots, and the merge already pays you with a trinket.
Decide on Shiny early. Shiny items hit a random non-Shiny unit, so using one while your board is still churning usually lands the Shiny on something you later sell.
Common confusions
“I have two level 3s, why can’t I make a level 4?” Because standard merging does not produce level 4, so two level 3s will not combine. A level 4 has to be triggered by an event or an item.
“What does levelling actually change?” It can change cooldown, multicast, stats and ability values at once, and the size of each step depends on the unit. The in-game inspect panel gives you the current numbers directly.
“Is Shiny worth rebuilding my board for?” Because Shiny uses its own values, the gain is sometimes smaller than the trigger relationships you would break. Read the panel first.
